High potential and gifted education (HPGE)
Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.
At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.
Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

What is high potential and gifted education?
High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.
Our high potential and gifted education opportunities
Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.
At Rosemeadow Public School, High Potential and Gifted Education is embedded in everyday teaching and learning. We empower our students to think deeply, create confidently, lead with purpose and continually grow.
Teachers use ongoing formative assessment and evidence-informed practice to identify students’ strengths and learning needs, adapting tasks through differentiation in pace, complexity and higher-order thinking. Students are supported through advanced learning pathways, including enrichment, extension and opportunities for accelerated or compacted content where appropriate. Learning experiences explicitly teach critical thinking and problem-solving strategies, while providing opportunities for inquiry and greater curriculum depth.
Across all classrooms, we foster supportive and safe environments that encourage confidence, risk-taking, perseverance and self-assessment. Through goal setting and leadership opportunities, every student is challenged to reach their potential and contribute positively to our school community.
At Rosemeadow Public School, High Potential and Gifted Education is embedded in our everyday practice. We recognise and nurture the unique strengths of every student by providing flexible, diverse and enriching opportunities that support growth across academic, creative, social and physical domains. Cultural Excellence
Rosemeadow is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our students and the way they represent our school community with pride. At the NSW Pacific Awards Night, Sienna was named a finalist for the Primary Education Award and went on to win — a fantastic accomplishment. At the Aboriginal Excellence Awards held at Oran Park High School, four of our students were nominated for Aboriginal Student Achievement Awards, with Nalla Rousell receiving the Uncle Wilbur Dixon Award and Ruby Barker King earning the Courage, Culture, and Commitment Award. These achievements reflect the hard work, dedication and strength of our Aboriginal students and are a source of great pride for all of us at Rosemeadow Public School.
Mathematics Extension
Our Mathematics Extension program offers targeted opportunities for students who show strong mathematical reasoning and curiosity. Our extension program has three stage-based classes: Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3. Through challenging tasks, collaborative investigations and open-ended problem-solving, students engage with concepts that stretch their thinking beyond grade level expectations.
They learn to justify their solutions, explore multiple strategies, and develop the confidence to approach complex mathematical ideas with persistence and independence. This program nurtures high-level reasoning and fosters a genuine enjoyment of mathematical challenge.
SRC
Student Representative Council(SRC) is made up of two students from each year 2-6 class and support unit classes that show potential in leadership and have ideas to improve and influence our school community. They meet fortnightly, with each term having a different theme or project to work on.
The SRC have been involved in promotion for school events, researching and writing proposals for areas of improvement within our school and ideas for fundraising.
Coding Club
Students across all grades took part in coding experiences this year, building valuable skills and nurturing their potential for future careers in technology.
Our Kindergarten students began their coding journey with introductory lessons in their classrooms, where they learnt to follow instructions and began developing an understanding of what coding is. Year 1 and 2 students extended these skills in the after-school Coding Club, where they designed their own animations and games and programmed robots to move and follow instructions. The Primary Coding Club for Years 3–6 included students selected through an expression of interest process who showed strong interest and talent in coding.
These students expanded their skills by training artificial intelligence models, working with block coding, and exploring a text-based coding language. At the conclusion of the program, students showcased their projects and were presented with awards to celebrate their impressive growth and achievements.
HPGE Stage 1 Brain Strain
Three of our talented Year 2 students proudly represented Rosemeadow Public School at the Camden HPGE Brain Strain Challenge! The event brought together students from across the Camden Network to take part in a series of exciting, team-based problem-solving activities designed to stretch their critical and creative thinking.
Our students rose to the challenge, working collaboratively, thinking outside the box and showcasing their exceptional problem-solving skills. We are so proud of how confidently they represented our school!
2025 Fisher's Ghost Writing
Congratulations to Isabella Nguyen-Gibbons for her outstanding achievement in securing first place in the Fisher’s Ghost Writing Prize, 2025 Years 4-6 short story - creative non-fiction category with her remarkable piece, ‘Poppy Amongst the Rubble’.
The judges commented that her writing was evocative and engaging from start to finish and we couldn’t agree more! We are so proud of your Bella!
Art group
Art group provides students with small group instruction in a range of art skills and techniques. Students are given guidance and opportunities to work with materials and mediums they may not have experienced within a classroom setting. The artworks completed by our students are often entered into competitions or displayed around our school. We enrich and nurture students' love for art and give them opportunities to develop their abilities further.
Our students' artworks have been showcased at art shows around our local community. Taking part in competitions hosted by local high schools, the council and local art centres. Students have an opportunity to share their works with the community by having them displayed. It has also been rewarding for students who have received awards and have been commended on their talented work.
Rock Band
Rock Band provides an enriching extension opportunity for HPGE students in Stages 2 and 3, fostering musical growth and collaboration. Through weekly rehearsals, students develop practical instrumental skills and experience performing as part of a cohesive band.
The program emphasises teamwork, discipline, and creative expression as students prepare performance-ready songs. Rock Band members have showcased their talents at events such as the Spring Fair and Rosemeadow’s Got Talent, gaining valuable live performance experience while deepening their understanding and appreciation of music.
